Campground Review: Aces High RV Park

Campground Review: Aces High RV Park

2017 Campground Review - Aces High RV Park copy.jpg

Knowing that we wanted to visit Newport, RI and also the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA, we decided to find a campground that was centrally located from these attractions. Aces High RV Park fit these criteria for us, plus it would give us a chance to explore a few parts of the Connecticut Coast. We found the Aces High RV Park in our Big Rig Best Bets book, so that made it even more attractive. Aces High RV Park is open year around and features 40+ long, gravel pull-thru sites in addition to 40+ sizable back-in sites all with full hook-ups, cable TV, and wifi. Many of the sites were nearly 100 feet in length. While it may seem trivial to some, we were impressed by the setup of their water & sewer utilites. The water spigot was set in a concrete base with a drain under the water faucet. In addition, the sewer drain was set in a concrete pad with the slope heading toward the middle of the drain. They definitely put a lot of thought into designing these connections and were a step above what you would find at your average campground. During our visit the wifi worked extremely well, but the campground was not at full capacity.

The swimming pool was not yet open for the season during our visit, but was located near the playground and fishing pond. They did have paddleboats available to rent and use on the larger fishing pond. The sites were well-maintained and are relatively wide, but there isn’t much privacy between most the sites. However, this makes it very-friendly for big rigs. The name Aces High probably comes from the two casinos that are close by, Mohegan Sun Casino & Foxwoods Casino.

If you do choose to stay at Aces High RV Park, make sure to check out the earth digger on the playground. It was super cool and I imagine would be a big hit with little kids interested in digging in the dirt & big tools! Russ also found it to be amusing, so check out the video below!
