Campground Review: The Resort at Massey's Landing

Campground Review: The Resort at Massey's Landing

When we initially booked this trip, The Resort at Massey’s Landing was not even finished. We were taking a risk as there was a chance the campground would not be completely finished by the time our reservation dates arrived. While the campground still may have had a few loose ends to tie up, they certainly created a lovely little resort-style campground. We were expecting all the sites to be paved, but there are still several gravel-lined sites, including ours. All the sites do have a secondary paved or gravel spot to park a vehicle which was a nice touch. There was also very little grass on our side of the campground. The camp host said they had planted several times without much luck, but I would assume they would have some on the sites before this time next year. The beach area was very pretty. Parts of it where a bit rocky, but still a great place to relax. For dog lovers, the campground is super dog-friendly with a special doggy beach. The pool area was impressive for a campground. There was a kid friendly side with a few water fountains and a zero-entry, making it a great place for little ones to play and stay safe. There was a wall separating the kids section from the adult-only side. The adult only side had a swim-up pool bar, which wasn’t operating as a swim-up bar quite yet. Apparently they are dealing with some licensing issues with the state of Delaware. While some guests were bothered by this, this wasn’t something that really mattered to us.

The Resort at Massey’s Landing had an activities schedule with daily activities for kids and adults alike. The paved roads make this a great campground to bike around. The campground was built around several small inlets/canals, making it a perfect place to kayak. We spent several mornings/afternoons paddling around the different canals throughout the campground. The original map showed a kayak launch which wasn’t built yet, but it would be great addition to see in years to come.

The campground store was large and well-stocked with food, beach & camping items, and campground apparel. The Jackspot Grill was a convenient and yummy option for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The menu was diverse with a little bit of everything, including several daily specials, to keep everyone happy You could pick up the food and enjoy it poolside. The Choco-Latte was the campground’s coffee & ice cream shop - which we may or may not have frequented at least once daily! There is a restaurant and bar that was supposed to be built on the beach, that is currently just a bunch a pilings out by the fishing pier. I would assume that would be finished up by next year’s camping season. The bath house & laundry facilities were very nice and cleaned very frequently throughout the day. Rather than taking quarters, the washers and dryers only took credit cards. Considering the amount of quarters we would have went through in the nearly 3 weeks we were here, I liked that feature!

For those of you with boats, this campground would be great place to visit. There is a public boat ramp literally next door to the entrance of the campground. Would certainly be fun to have a boat to run around in while at the campground.

With some minor finishing touches, The Resort at Massey’s Landing could certainly become a 5 star resort campground.
