Campground Review: Spanish Main RV Park

Campground Review: Spanish Main RV Park

We knew we wanted to be in the Tampa Bay area during the month of January. It is often recommended that you plan ahead to if you want to spend the winter months in sunny Florida. We didn’t, so in December we posted to some RVer-themed Facebook pages asking for recommendations in the Tampa area that had availability. Within a few hours, we had a list of recommendations from fellow campers. Thanks guys! Shortly after, we had a reservation for a few weeks at Spanish Main RV Park. The park presents a mix of permanent mobile homes, park models, and transient sites. The Cypress trees in the park are plentiful with Spanish moss provided the true Florida feel.

Some of the permanent sites are really run-down, but it seems to be they are trying to do things to improve the park. Just during our stay, they replaced an old wooden fence surrounding the campground, with a bright white durable fence. Spanish Main RV Park is definitely a good place to stay for only $18/night. Thanks to Passport America’s 50% off rate!

The best asset to the campground (at least for us) is definitely its location. It was a great home base for all the places we planned to visit during our stay. It was an easy drive to Tampa, Clearwater, Lakeland, Palm Harbor, and St. Petersburg. Both I-4 and I-75 are only miles away. The Florida State Fairgrounds, Busch Gardens, and Hard Rock Casino are all within a 15 minute drive. There is a Pilot / Flying J about 4 miles for fuel and propane fill ups! In need of service or an RV upgrade, the largest RV dealer, LazyDays is located right there as well.

While most wouldn’t consider it an RV resort, Spanish Main provides good overall value for your dollar.
